I winged this recipe because I had leftover sheets of yufka (phyllo) that I needed to use. So this recipe won’t be exact - more of an inspiration! Feel free to use your favorite nut to top the yufka bites. I used sesame seeds, but you could also use pistachios, walnuts, pine nuts, etc. It is quick, simple, and so delicious. Full of crunch, texture, and flavor! Instructional Recipe video below.
Honey Yufka Bites
INGREDIENTS:
Yufka (8-12 sheets)
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup honey
1 lemon
1/3 cup sesame seeds, toasted
DIRECTIONS:
Take the sheets of yufka and roll them into a log.
Cut 1 to 2-inch pieces of the yufka and fill a baking pan. I recommend using a pan with a lip to hold liquid (the honey-lemon syrup).
Melt one stick of butter (1/2 cup) and pour over the yufka.
Bake the yufka for 25-30 minutes in a 350F oven.
Meanwhile, melt 3/4 cup honey to make it pourable.
Add the juice of one lemon to the honey.
When yufka is golden brown, remove it from the oven and immediately pour over the honey-lemon mixture.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and serve immediately.
